    Carnival in Pula

    Carnival parade

If you really want to be someone else for a moment, then the Pula Carnival is the perfect place for you. This festivity is traditionally held before Lent, on January 17, the Pula Mayor hands over the symbolic key of the City of Pula and all the powers it symbolizes to the Master of the Carnival. This moment marks the beginning of the period when Pula is under the "rule of masks", promising everything, reacting and criticizing current issues and events.

The most interesting sight is surely the carnival parade when hundreds of masks parade through town, in 2017 there were over 600 masks from all over Croatia and Slovenia, entertaining the citizens of Pula and tourists along the way, and culminating in the masquerade.

According to the program, collecting of the carnival groups will start in the morning at parking Karolina, at 11.30 am the carnival parade  will start in front of  the Arena, where will be the first presentation of the groups, continue to the Portarata Square, where the main presentation of the masked groups will be held. After the Portarata Square the masks will continue through the streets of Sergijevaca and Kandlerova to Karolina. All participants of the Carnival will get lunch at Karolina, and after that, at 3 pm at the same location, there will be a big costume ball for all  visitors of the Carnival with Mauro Staraj & La Banda (in case of rain in Circolo) .

On the day preceding Ash Wednesday (Shrove Tuesday), February 13, carnival events end with the burning of the "Pust" - an effigy made of straw, a the traditional culprit for all the last year\'s troubles.

    Honey Days

    13th international exhibition and conference

The case with the choice of beekeeper that is honeymaker is the same as with a café and your favourite coffee brand. You choose once and never change. In her time, Empress Maria Theresa proclaimed beekeeping a protected craft. “...In order to popularize beekeeping among our people, it is exempt from any tax or toll for all times...”, stands in the Patent on beekeeping from 1775.

    A spoonful of health

Locust tree honey - the best cure for stress; meadow honey - it is difficult to count up all its benefits, but it will do wonders for elderly people and give them new strength; chestnut honey with its bitterness defies the saying \'sweet as honey\' but is a great remedy for digestive difficulties and other disorders... Honey is healthy! This is a statement no one will even dare to deny. How healthy it really is, that is something we are yet to find out. But with great certainty and with no reason to prove it we can say for sure that honey has a wonderful taste, it is a special sweetener and is equally good today as it was when man reached for it into the beehive for the very first time (how did he even get this idea?). Istrian honey is of outstanding quality, but there isn\'t much of it, just as much as there is vegetation. In order to harvest as much honey as possible, beekeepers carry their hives to places even a few hundred kilometres away. This is one of the integral parts of beekeeping.

    The long way to honey

In Istria it all begins in April when beekeepers harvest fruit honey and dandelion honey which is extracted until May. Then the hives and beekeepers, like real nomads, move in search of locust trees that yield high quality and delicious honey. At the same time bees are diligently collecting sage nectar. The next activity takes place in June when hives are transferred to areas rich in chestnut trees, which has become a very uncertain and modest source of honey. At this period there is no activity of bees in Istria, so the search for flower blossoms for the nectar takes beekeepers to areas of Gorski kotar, Kordun and Lika. This best speaks of the beekeepers\' nomadic way of life and their readiness to cover several hundred kilometres every seven days to reach the faraway hives just for a few kilograms of sweet honey. In mid-September the bees return home. Then they mostly sip the nectar from heather and other plants blossoming at that time. For those who don\'t know much about honey making and its terminology, honey extraction is the process of removing honey from the honeycomb. So, after the last honey extraction in the year, beekeepers prepare their bees for the winter, leaving enough honey for them to survive - about fifteen kilograms in each hive.

World Sausage Stuffing on Beka Championship
The ancient Istrian way of stuffing sausages, which dates back to a period when meat used to make sausages was cut with a knife instead of being grounded with a meat grinder, is the so called “stuffing on beka”. In this case the beka is a freshly cut willow switch, the same type used to bind the vines in the vineyard or for basket weaving.

A beka was used to shape a loop or half moon, the beginning of the swine casing would then be tightened over this rounded shape, and the meat filling would then be put into the casing by hand. In reviving this ancient skill, which is closely related to the tradition of sausage making in Istria, the fair in Sv. Petar u Šumi is enriched with an attractive and entertaining competition to which many contestants from outside Istra apply.

The championship is conducted in two rounds: on the first day of the fair, all registered competitors pass through the qualifying rounds, while the finals take place on the second day during the afternoon. Each competitor, both in the qualifications and in the finals, receives 2 kg of finished meat mix, 5 m of swine casing, a willow switch called a beka, and is given 20 minutes. In that time, he/she has to stuff and shape as many sausages as possible, and points are assigned for speed, having a casing stuffing without air pockets or cavities, for the external appearance of the sausages and their total weight.

The World Sausage Stuffing on Beka Championships have been taking place as part of the European Sausage Fair since 2014. The title of champion, both in 2014 and in 2015, was won by Martina Andrijanić Bazo from Bukovlje near Slavonski Brod.

    Days of istrian asparagus

    Gastronomic event dedicated to asparagus

During March, April and May, the 11th Days of Istrian Asparagus will give true "asparagus lovers" an opportunity to relish in imaginative, delicious and fragrant delicacies made from Istrian wild asparagus, ranging from the renowned "fritaja" (omelettes), soups, homemade pastas and risottos to ingenious combinations with meat and fish and scrumptious desserts.

Asparagus is one of the most appreciated wild plant varieties growing in Istria, picked from mid March to late April. Since it grows in less accessible places, often protected by thorny bushes, its picking requires eye of a hawk, iron will and not being afraid of an occasional scratch.

Istrian pinca under the baking lid

    Revival of Easter traditions

In March, the Easter spirit will rule over Žminj, a small picturesque village in central Istria, in which the event dedicated to pinca, the traditional Istrian Easter sweet bread will take place. This event reminds us of the not so distant past when the custom of baking pinca played a very important role during Easter festivities, and all visitors will be able to see and taste what people used to eat for Easter breakfast.

Hardworking housewives from all over Istria will show their Easter sweet breads and Easter pastries for tasting. They will delight in showing you how the pinca was once kneaded and baked by the fireplace and they will share their recipes. Pinca was once prepared in every household for Easter.

This was one of the few sweet dishes at the modest Easter table in many households. Women used to knead this sweet bread with raisins the day before in order to make the dough reach the desired size, and it was baked in large bread ovens. Unlike bread, the sugar, eggs and obligatory raisins are added to the pinca dough. At the end, the top of the bread is cut into the shape of a cross and decorated with olive leaves.

However, it is not just the pinca that is an unmissable part of the Easter tradition in Istria. Jajarice were also baked on this day for children. These are braided buns onto which a boiled egg is added to the top. Children were always especially excited about this gift, which they would receive with a painted egg given to them for Easter lunch by every member of the family.

100 miles of Istria: Red course

    Ultratrail race

The 100 miles course is the hardest and the most beautiful course that we offer. It stretches from the eastern part of Istria, over its highest mountain down to the mainland, and ends on the western part of the peninsula in the city of Umag.

Along the route you will experience every possible aspect of trail running - really technical terrain, a little bit of coastering, old medieval towns, deep forests, city centres, old train route, muddy valleys, all spiced up with breathtaking panoramas. The course starts in the 3000 years old town Labin, climbs the Učka mountain and descends in Buzet where your drop bag will wait for you.

After the well-deserved rest, the trail leads you to the smallest town in the world, the town of Hum,  then to the medieval pearl Motovun and back to the finish in Umag.

169,5 km with 6.632 m doesn’t seem so hard but trust us, this course is very demanding and it shouldn’t be taken lightly.

    Asparagus Festival

    Gastronomic event dedicated to asparagus

The Asparagus Festival is the first in a series of gourmet events, part of this year’s Novigrad Gourmet Festival beginning in late April and running through to October. Each of these events focuses on one aspect of the local cuisine – the first event is dedicated to the wild asparagus.

Novigrad’s Asparagus Festival is a one-day event that will be staged this year on the 27th of April in the great setting of Novigrad\'s Diocesan Park, located in the historical town core at the feet of the city’s bell tower and under its centuries-old pine trees, just a few steps from the sea. The event offers a real treat for the palate and all the other senses. You’ll have an opportunity to sample some tasty and imaginative meals featuring wild asparagus prepared for you for this occasion only by our experienced chefs – and you\'ll also have an opportunity to try them with some of the top wines produced by local winemakers.

A small fair accompanying the event will offer agricultural and other products produced locally by diligent hands – with, of course, a little help from Mother Nature. You\'ll have an opportunity to sample – and to buy at promotional prices – excellent extra virgin olive oils, cheeses and other dairy products, prosciutto and other cured meat products, homemade noodles, tasty sweets, natural cosmetics and much, much more.

There will also be an exhibition of handmade original local souvenirs and other handicrafts available for purchase and a music and animation programme with a nice, unobtrusive musical backdrop to the whole event of traditional music and dance.

The weekend of the Asparagus Festival will also provide an opportunity to sample tasty meals featuring wild asparagus at restaurants, local konoba and other food vendors in and around Novigrad. As festival partners they will offer menus based on asparagus. While the event at Novigrad\'s Diocesan Park will offer an opportunity to sample asparagus in some diverse and very special culinary arrangements, our gourmet partners will offer many traditional meals based on this excellent ingredient at their food venues, such as the essential scrambled eggs with asparagus, tasty risottos that will often also feature some fresh seafood or a refreshing cream of asparagus soup. All you need to do is chose and enjoy!

In this way people have the opportunity to buy and to play trieštinas or simply, just to listen to their sound... On this occasion, different musical workshops, lectures and presentations about the peculiarity of Istrian national instruments as well as scientific meetings about the preservation of the traditional music are also organised. Every year this small village with just about two hundred inhabitants becomes a unique world centre of this accordion called trieština.

Kantaduri va Hum - Kantaduri come to Hum

Festival of a capella and vocal group

A meeting will be taking place of local vocal groups, the famous Klapas in the picturesque atmosphere of the smallest town in the world, Hum, accompanied by the unusual illumination of today’s already forgotten lanterns. An old Istrian carriage serves as a makeshift stage, where the klapas will sing traditional songs of this area. As in the past, when people spontaneously gathered and sang from the heart, the klapas will once again sing the songs of their ancestors a cappella. And in order to present the traditional heritage to their guests as faithfully as possible, the singers will be wearing the traditional costumes of their grandparents.

Hum is the ideal place for getting together and meeting the Istrian culture, whilst this event allows visitors to enjoy the beautiful melodies performed for them by a number of klapas, while comfortably accommodated on hay bales or wooden benches under a starry sky.

Town of Hum Celebration - the smallest town in the world

Election of the major of Hum

According to legend Hum, the medieval town also known as the smallest town in the world, was founded completely by chance. Giants that were at the time building neighboring towns in the Mirna River valley decided to use the few remaining rocks and build a miniature town.

This little town hasn\'t changed much over the centuries, and it seems as if even today the narrow stone-paved streets echo the tales of ancient knights. Each year on the Day of Hum all men from the parish elect their prefect in the municipal loggia according to the old tradition, by engraving votes on the wooden stick known as ‘raboš’. The town prefect is responsible for his parish, for settling disputes among residents and imposing penalties for disorderly conduct in Hum and the surrounding villages. And then to top it all, the election is followed by a folk festival where in the untouched, wonderful surrounding there is a chance to taste both the finest traditional dishes and well-known homemade wine and brandy. Hum is also the mecca of Croatian Glagolitism where you can see the first monuments and trace the very beginnings of Croatian literacy, as well as get to know the old Croatian alphabet ‘glagoljica’.

    Štriga! Istrian rogaine challenge

Rogaining is an orienteering sport of long distance, it includes movement strategies and navigation between checkpoints by using the different types of maps.

Teams which can accept between 2 and 5 members try to get to as many checkpoints as possible in defined time. Shorter rogaine races can be organized for individuals. Checkpoints can bring different number of points which depends on difficulty of finding it, so teams must develop a strategy (for example, to get to as many checkpoints as possible of lower significance.

Teams move by walking (or running), use maps and compass for orienteering on the terrain which vary from the open one to the flat and further to the terrain located in the hilly woods. Central spot, for which rogaine use the word “hash house” is a place where competitors can have a cooked meal and teams can return to it whenever they want to eat, rest or sleep.

Teams move by their own speed according to their level of training so this sport is open to all ages, from children to the seniors. During the race, the team members have to be close to one another and all the team members must visit the checkpoints. Usually, the rogaine race duration is 24 hours but the race can as short as 3, 6, 8, 12 or 15 hours.

If you ever pass near Žminj on the second Saturday in July, than you should not miss the meeting of Istrian self-taught accordions players, officially named \'Accordions at Kastel\' and unofficially \'The wedding of accordions\'.

This meeting is not competitive and the only prizes are applauses and ovations of the public, which is always present in a large number here in Žminj. On that day it is possible to hear from the Kastel the sounds of polka and to see waltz and \'balun\', the Istrian wheel dance. According to the tradition, the concert should be officially opened with the performance of one local musician, while the end is being left to the debutants. Seen that most of the musicians already became \'local stars\', and that they are also frequent guests at the weddings and parties, people usually welcome them with great applause and ovations.
The end of the official part of the program is celebrated with the performance of a group of about forty accordions, which is the usual number of the participants, but that is not all because the party continues till the early morning with the local songs and performances.

Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes

    Religious festivity

The folk festivity of Our Lady of Lourdes in the village of Radini nearby Brtonigla has been commemorating the appearance of the Virgin Mary for over eighty years. Our Lady of Lourdes allegedly appeared in 1922 to a local woman Marina Pirovich, who communicated to the pastor the wish to build a church in Mary’s honour. Although her story invoked religious fervour in the hearts of other inhabitants who supported the idea, the priest remained unconvinced until the pleas were finally granted by the next pastor Roberto Galetti.

The entire village participated in the construction. The wealthier families of Radini provided the land, stone was taken from the nearby quarry and the altar was designed by an unknown architect from the town of Pula who translated a vision of the cave in France in which little Beatrice saw Our Lady of Lourdes for the first time, to Radini. In 1929, the villagers organized a festivity in honour of the new church, attracting numerous pilgrims.

The first procession with the statue of the Virgin Mary paraded through the village accompanied with dancing and fair is thought to have occurred on that occasion. While festivities were once eagerly anticipated by children, because it was the only period they could get an ice-cream, nowadays Radini offer homemade cakes, Istrian dishes and premium wines of Northwestern Istria with loads of sports-entertainment activities.

Large numbers of amateur athletes are drawn by attractive bicycle ride for children and adults, volleyball tournament or almost forgotten “pljočkanje” – an old Istrian game played with flat stones.

We are never out of occasions for celebration – with the blessing of Our Lady of Lourdes, the people form Radini always manage to re-awaken their spirit, realizing that together they can do “miracles\'.

Wealthy Romans built their holiday villas on these shores, and the village itself was a trading port for Istria and Venice for centuries, due to its unique location in a shallow bay. That’s why it was called Karigador, or “golden loading port” in Italian. Nowadays, its inhabitants are opening their homes to guests wishing to spend their vacation here, and a large camp for nature enthusiasts was opened in the preserved natural environment by the sea.

Karigador nights guarantee pleasant relaxation at the height of the summer season to all visitors – the beach is within easy reach, just like excellent Istrian wines, seafood specialties and live music.

A torchlight procession passing through the most beautiful parts of Karigador shore will ensure moments to cherish forever. A nice promenade by the sea will bring you to the festivity, where you will be enveloped by the hum of the crowds and irresistible aroma of specialities.

    Jakovlja

Folk festival and Istrian cattle fair

Today a folk festivity, once a fair on St. Jacob\'s Day, Jakovlja truly has a long tradition. With the aim of preserving Istrian folk heritage, the local fair ground in Kanfanar becomes the venue for the traditional fair of Istrian oxen that takes place on Jakovlja. The Istrian ox descends from the extinct primeval ox that was once prevalent in Istria. This ox of pure breed is believed to be the largest mammal in Europe and one of the most beautiful in the whole world. It is well known as a meek animal that has always been the most important farm animal in Istria. Boškarini graze and browse on almost everything on this soil, so thanks to them forests and pastureland once looked like parks.

The parade of Istrian oxen is the most entertaining part of St. Jacob’s Day in Kanfanar. The long tradition of celebrating St. Jacob’s Day begins with a rare parade of oxen, accompanied by a brass band and majorettes. Some of the oxen draw old farm waggons, carrying folk singers and dancers, wine barrels and ploughs. The nostalgic scene of past times and customs passes through Kanfanar to the site where the cattle are weighed, with the heaviest animal winning first prize. An ox-ploughing competition takes places on a nearby field for the best score in obedience. The merry parade then heads back to the fairgrounds, where a jury examines each head of cattle in the beauty category. Finally, winners in all three categories are announced. Adding to the fun of the parade, folk music and dance are a variety of daylong activities, such as bicycling, a bocce ball tournament, a clay pigeon shooting contest and a selection of gastronomic specialties.

    Celebration of St. Lawrence

    Traditional folk festivity

Every village in Istria has its own festivity and the inhabitants of Nova Vas, one of the oldest and largest villages in Brtonigla, celebrate the holiday of Saint Lawrence. Every August, this religious festivity brings merriment to the local population, accompanied not only with music and dancing, but also with an attractive hiking route across the nearby hillocks overlooking the largest river in Istria - Mirna.

The historical fortifications in the surroundings are testimonies of life in Antiquity and the inhabitants will tell you that their settlement was established as early as in the 16th ct. in the vicinity of scattered older villages. Saint Michael and Dionysius were celebrated for decades, but nowadays, only the festivity of Saint Lawrence remains, although his church is located in the neighbouring Pavići.

On this holiday, the villagers gather at the church in Pavići to listen to the holy mass and a long time ago, the statute of the saint would be carried to Nova Vas. One hour before sundown, the locals would return the statute to its rightful place. Afterwards, dancing wood take place on a specially made wooden floor, with children circling the ice-cream sellers and carousels.

There will be no lack of Istrian specialties, desserts, wine and dancing at modern “Lovrečeva”, as the feast of St. Lawrence is referred to in Istria. The Italian community organizes fun activities for children and adults in the evening, while amateur athletes compete in popular football or go hiking.

They kept postponing her wish so the saint climbed the near-by hill, sat on a rock and started crying. Tired and exhausted, she eventually fell asleep. When she woke up the next morning she noticed a small pit (školnica) filled with water, so she washed her face. Since then, water from this pit has never dried up, and numerous pilgrims, the blind and visually impaired, visit the well.

    Bartulja - St. Bartholomew’s Fest

    Folk festival

Bartulja in Žminj is the best known and the most popular today’s folk festivity in Istria with at least centennial tradition probably reaching back far into the past. It used to be celebrated on St. Bartholomew’s Day on 24 August, but in time people started gathering the last Saturday in August to meet in large numbers.

Nevertheless, St. Bartholomew’s Day is still celebrated with a mass held in the church of the saint right at the entrance to Žminj. The point of every Bartulja, both in the past and today, is actually the gathering of people from Žminj in their native place. It is the day when they return to their homes in order to gather around their fireplaces, meet their relatives and friends, have a talk and take a walk around the place. Older people recall that just before Bartulja they would clean their house every day after the harvest and after working in the field so that it would look nice and ready for their relatives and guests.

Art event dedicated to the blueness of the sea

Picturesque Fažana\'s waterfront assumes a special, magical appearance during the traditional Rhapsody in Blue festival, an event dedicated to the blueness of the sea. The exhibition on the waterfront, bestows an artistic atmosphere on the entire evening and is accompanied by a variety of entertaining programmes for all ages.

Young artists can set up their mobile installations on the sea and on batanas (flat-bottomed boats) and are in charge of their "mobile art" with the additional dynamics of colour and movement being achieved from light show projections. Illuminated predominantly in blue, the batanas moored in the harbour also become part of the works of art of imaginative artists, decorated with installations mostly made of useful materials, whilst the sea becomes an interesting gallery for this special visual experience.

A cocktail party with a crazy cocktail show will take place on the waterfront, led by the skilled hands of some of Croatia’s finest barmen. Enveloped by the intoxicating fragrance of blue fish, during the evening gourmet visitors will be able to taste culinary delights of sardines, one of the symbols of Fažana, and listen to the rhythms of pop, blues, rock and roll, evergreen and country music.

Children will enjoy the blue magic with magic tricks, a balloon party and face painting, and maybe will discover a magical secret along the way.

    Subotina with Giant Truffles Omelette

Giant Truffles Omelette (2018 eggs and 10 kg truffles)

A giant truffles omelette made of 2018 eggs in one enormous, 2.5 meters wide pan, is the main event of the first day of Buzet traditional festival. And the very next day the Old Town streets will get an old fashioned feeling with old crafts, popular folk theatres and food from those old days.

Subotina in an old fashioned way

    Old-time folk festivity

Subotina or Journey into the Past

In September, on the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, streets and squares of the old town of Buzet turn into a historic stage. All participants of this event wear original folk costumes and clothes resembling townspeople at the turn of the 20th century. The sound of traditional Istrian music is accompanied by the irresistible sweet smell of delicacies that surely satisfy the palate of even the most demanding visitor.

In such a scenography of the past set within the old town walls you can take part in a variety of ethno-workshops of ancient and nearly forgotten crafts, so-called ethno-trails of ancient crafts . Right in front of your eyes carpenters, coopers, shoemakers, tailors, comb-makers, basket-weavers, wavers, oil producers and pharmacists, as well as other masters of ancient crafts demonstrate skills that have been preserved to this very day.

Apart from the ethno-trail you can also choose the gastro, eno or art trail or even mead trail. Tempting flavours on the gastro-trail are those of vegetable stews maneštre, pasta fuži, cheese, truffles dishes, boneless pork loin ombolo, sausages and many other irresistible delicacies. On the no-trail be sure to taste the finest wines of Istrian wine-makers, whereas the mead trail introduces you to the quality of products prepared in a traditional way such as honey, olive-oil, herb brandy, herbs and herbal tea.

After a hearty meal and fine wine, there\'s nothing like great fun, and those who will make sure you have a good time are jugglers, street entertainers, musicians, accordion players, folk dancers and actors presenting plays in the local dialect. But, that\'s not all - there\'s also a parade with typical characters from the past: street sweepers, firemen, chimney sweepers, ice-cream vendors, photographers... Visit the exhibition of folklore, souvenirs and jewellery in the town museums and stalls, or you can even try your luck at bocce or a game of cards briškula or trešeta.

This unique time machine will surely bring back the old days to remind everyone what life was like back then.

Wine & walk by the sea

We invite you to kick off autumn in Istria in the best possible way: walking and tasting Istrian wines. We promise you will be thrilled by the autumn colours and the fruits of the vineyards of northwestern Istria. Don’t miss Wine & Walk by the Sea in Novigrad!

The walk starts in the morning hours near the Aminess Maestral Hotel in Novigrad. Guests will register there and receive a tasting glass, vouchers, a route map, and all other necessary instructions. The trail you will walk is 10km long, and along this path, you will taste the best wines by Istrian winemakers paired with local specialties at several wine & food points. In one of the seaside olive groves, you will also have the opportunity to taste the region’s world-class olive oil. At some wine & food points, you will be greeted by an entertainment and music programme, and there will even be a few other surprises we won’t let you in on yet...

The adventure begins with a stroll along the sea and Novigrad’s Mediaeval walls to the old harbour of Mandrač in the very heart of the old town centre. Here, you will find the first wine & food point in a local wine cellar with decades of tradition. After the tasting, you will continue on along the trail, which runs partly along the coast and partly through the vineyards, olive groves, and other beautiful natural locations of Novigrad’s hinterland.

There, you will find a few more wine & food points, where you can meet the winemakers whose wines you will taste alongside delicious gourmet treats. This is an excellent opportunity to chat, ask a question or two, and find out more about the amazing wines you will be enjoying all day.

The return to Novigrad is expected in the late afternoon, and the finish line is in the park of the Novigrad bishopric, in the very centre of the old town. Here, all participants and other visitors can continue the party while tasting wines and food and enjoying music and a fair with local agricultural products and souvenirs. There will also be a lottery for Wine & Walk by the Sea participants, and a few lucky winners will also be taking home a souvenir from this inspiring event.

Day of Fažana\'s Parish: Feast of Saints Cosmas and Damian

    Church and folk festivity

Under the stone "mast" of the bell tower, the square in front of Fažana\'s Parish Church of SS. Cosmas and Damian resembles a ship deck which by the local fishing tradition and new challenges communicates in a special way with time and generations of its inhabitants and guests. The figures of the patron saints of this parish, recorded in documents since 1150, greet us from the relief on the stone facade above the church entrance. Most probably twin brothers, Cosmas and Damian were holy physicians who were born in Arabia and studied medicine in Syria. They practiced the art of healing without charging fees, preaching Christianity in the area of Aegean Cilicia in present-day Turkey. They treated people and animals and accepted no payment for their services, and as Christians were sentenced to death and beheaded in 303. The feast day of Saints Cosmas and Damian is celebrated on September 26.
